Wedding bells for kannada director Suri

He will marry his long-time sweetheart Pallavi, a painter.

Ace kannada director Suri is set to marry his long-time girlfriend Pallavi. Hailing from Davangere, Pallavi is an accomplished painter while Suri started as a painter and turned to artdirection, dialogue writing and then directing. Known each other for nearly five years, the two will tie the knot in at Kollur’s Mookambika temple near Mangalore on December 8.

“Only members of both the families will be present. Later, we will have a reception in Bangalore,” said Suri.

“I knew the girl and the families have approved, so it can be called love-cum-arranged marriage. It will be a simple function in the temple. True, it is about 450 km from Bangalore and that is the reason we will have a reception later,” Suri said. Sources said Mookambika shrine was Suri's mother’s choice. The wedding was advanced as the month of Ashada is to set in soon. “Otherwise the marriage would have happened held only next year,” Suri said.

Suri is basking in the success of his latest film Jackie, which has become the highest-grossing Kannada film during its 50-day run at the box office.

Yograj Bhat new kannada flick Pancharangi with Diganth

After much haggling and brainstorming director Yograj Bhat has chosen a name for his new film with kannada actor Diganth and Nidhi Subbaiah. The film is to be named Pancharangi (five coloured). Bhat’s concept of the story is that a man’s life revolves around five important elements; education, career, love, parents and marriage/children.

“Whatever way we look at life, all aspects can be categorised into these five basic ideas,” says Bhat. There is a small hitch with the title though. Pancharangi Putta has already been registered with Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce by someone else and Bhat is trying to get a noobjection certificate from them for his title.

His close friend kannada director Suri, on the other hand, started with a title and afterwards wove a story around it. His film Jackie, with Puneeth Rajkumar in the lead, will start in February. Puneeth had said that the title was the name of the protagonist and was not to be confused with ‘jockey’.

kannada director duniya Suri lets out a little more about the film. “In local slang jackie is the moniker given to a person in a group who volunteers not to drink when the friends go on a trip. He is the one who drives the car and has to be on his guard. The title was taken from that concept,” he said.

Always tightlipped on anything about his films, Suri complains that most people in the industry are always on the lookout to steal ideas and concepts. “We have to safeguard the few ideas we use in the film with our lives. It takes seven months for the film to be released. Until then, it has to remain safe,” he said.

Puneeth bags suri's next kannada film

Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar will be acting in ‘Duniya’ Suri’s next kannada film Jackie. Though this is the tentative title of the film, it is most likely to be retained. The film will start after Puneeth completes Prithvi.

“The two films I am most nervous and excited about at the same time are Prithvi and Suri’s next. The first one because of the combination of director Jacob (Varghese) and Manikanth Kadri (music composer). And any of Suri’s films will be a challenge,” Puneeth said.

Jacob Varghese has a tough follow-up act to do after the success of his first film Savari. Manikanth composed music for the film and the duo will now have the biggest star in Kannada to handle. Manikanth is the son of internationally renowned saxophone exponent Kadri Gopalanath. He has also composed music for films Ganesha and Mr Garagasa. That Suri will be directing a film for Puneeth rajkumar was in the news for some time. It is the title and schedule that has now been revealed. Suri is currently wrapping up Kari Chirate with Vijay, his third film with the actor. “Jackie is not about jockeys. It is just a name,” Puneeth said.
