NANNAVANU - Kannada film review

DIRECTOR: Srinivasa Raju

ACTORS: Prajwal Devraj, Aindrita Ray, Doddanna, Komal, Avinash

Avenging previous life’s tragic death is not a new story in kannada films which is usually followed by a lot of bloodshed. Surprisingly, new kannada movie Nannavanu is one such revenge drama played in the court without much use of fake blood. The kannada film is mildly entertaining throughout but does not rise above the average.

A greenhorn advocate played by Prajwal awaits his big break. What he manages mostly are petty cases which also try to be the comic relief prolonging the arrival of the real story. Also delaying the main plot is the comedy track of kannada comedy actor Komal which has no relevance to the film. His gang of thieves steal an ATM machine and suffer dismantling it (The real thieves who stole an ATM machine a few days ago in Bangalore must be appreciating their efforts).

Kannada hot actress Aindrita Ray offers Prajwal a case and Rs 50 crore even if he loses it. She claims she was killed decades ago, in her previous birth, by the current chief minister. The court considers the case as an unsolved murder rather than a reincarnation story. The director, however, shows us in a long flashback how Prajwal and Aindrita were lovers in their previous birth. Kannada actor Avinash, the chief minister, was after a crystal Shiva linga. For advocate Prajwal everything falls in place and he wins the case without much effort. He only has to participate in a few songs and fight scenes while the witness and proof falls into place by themselves.

The film arouses interest with its imaginative plot. But it is not sustained with a taut narrative. The first half is simply wasted on unnecessary trivias. Prajwal is good as the undertaker in the flashback while Aindrita does her job without much fuss. The music is a relief though not of the ‘hit’ quality you expect form Ilayaraja. Not a must watch but you won’t mind watching Nannavanu.

NOORU JANMAKU - Kannada Movie Review

DIRECTOR: Nagathihalli Chandrashekar

ACTORS: Santosh, Aindrita Ray, Sharan, Adarsha Balakrishna, Bhavya

Kannada director Nagathihalli Chandrashekar is bound by personal beliefs not to make a film without adding a pet intellectual theme of his own. So, a love story gets mixed up with global recession (quite late in the day). The superficial smattering of job loss and financial crisis in a posh setting does not help the film anyway.

The protagonist is an architect, who reluctantly hires a female ‘right-hand.’ She turns out to be the backbone of his business as it prospers. The ‘work, work and more work’ philosophy means that at the end of the three-year-contract, our hero does not even know where she lives or her birthday. Perhaps her job application and contract letters were blank. When it is time for her to leave, he falls in love with her. She promptly introduces him to her fiancee and leaves.

Because of the recession and her absence, and more importantly due to the necessity of the story, his business begins to sink. He goes to Macau and finds himself competing against her in a contest that will make or break his career. As required in such a situation, the fiancee of the girl begins to show negative shades.

This kannada film is full of unwanted scenes. One prime example is where the two architects present a construction model to Karibasavaiah. Santosh’s character is made to act rhetorically in some scenes. The few good scenes present are not enough to make this a must-watch kanada film.

Santosh in the first lead role of his career would normally be considered the weakest link. But he manages to give a good performance and comes out as the best bet. On the music front, only the title song borrowed from Nagathihalli’s America America shows sings of becoming a hit. The background score tries to force the audience to laugh and fails. The camera work stands in good stead. Free download kannada film songs here.

Nooru Janmaku kannada movie

Stuck between adversaries kannada director Nagathihalli Chandrashekar and hot kannada actress Aindrita Ray, lead actor Santosh is in a tight spot with the promotions of Nooru Janmaku.

Director Nagathihalli Chandrashekar and kanada actress Aindrita Ray are busy with the publicity drive for Nooru Janmaku. But Nagathihalli does not want the actress to share the stage with him. So, she is not seen in any press conference the director attends. Aindrita is, however, seen in television promotions of the film and other promotions like road shows where Nagathihalli is conspicuous by his absence.

Caught between the two is lead kannada actor Santosh, who has managed to become a lead actor after a difficult struggle. Santosh is on good terms with both of them and it is his close friend Vinay Lad who is the producer of the film. His plans of a publicity blitz has now been reduced to the regular advertisement drives. Nagathihalli and Aindrita’s televised spat about a slapping incident in Macau, China during shooting has ruined Santosh’s plans.

Santosh had managed to tie up with numerous business houses for the publicity of the film. “But I am unable to use most of them. We have made savings of at least Rs 40 lakh during shooting, thanks to these sponsors. but we are unable to utilise them to their full potential for our promotions,” he said. A popular beer brand is giving out tickets for the film at their outlets. Santosh sports a publicity t-shirt given by another sponsor and is touring the state to promote the film.

Nagathihalli, on the other hand, says that he is not handling the marketing of the film. The film will have a very limited release. So limited that it will release in only 12 theatres across Karnataka, the least for a Nagathihalli film so far.

Mewest kannada on-screen pair, Aindrita Ray and Santosh, to tell us what it was like working with each other on Nooru Janmaku

AINDRITA RAY

SANTOSH AS HERO... As a debutant, he did pretty well. He put in a lot of hard work throughout the film.

HIS WOW FACTOR... He is passionate about everything connected to the film, Nooru Janmaku.

ON THE SETS... He’s really hard-working. I always saw him multitasking. He took care of the overall production, too. He’s passionate about his work in every way and this film, in particular. This was something that I learnt from him.

CHEMISTRY... That’s for the audience to decide. I’m yet to watch the film and I can’t comment on our on-screen romance now.

SONG AND DANCE... He didn’t have to shake a leg much onscreen. Our characters were very dignified, but from what I know, he’s a good dancer. I heard people are loging to download kannada film nooru janmaku songs and they are interested in the lyrics of the film.

NAGATHIHALLI... I’d rather not comment.

SANTOSH

ANDY AS HEROINE... She’s a lovely co-star with amazing energy. Working alongside her brought an extra edge to my work.

HER WOW FACTOR... She’s extremely photogenic and looks fab on screen, no matter what she’s doing.

ON THE SETS... It did take some time for us to get comfortable with each other, but once we started working together, the rapport just grew. But even the first time, she didn’t have any airs about her even though she came fresh from the success of Manasaare.

CHEMISTRY... The on-screen chemistry is fairly subtle because the setting is restrained rather than flamboyant. There’s no blatant expression of love; it’s all implied, much of it communicated through the eyes.

SONG AND DANCE... I love dancing, but I don’t have much opportunity to show off my skills in this film. I do, though, love the moves in Nooru Janmaku. And I’d love to do a film that would let me dance.

NAGATHIHALLI... I call him Mestru and working with him is like being in his school. He’s brought out the best in me, coaxing me to raise the bar for myself. I was in awe of his ability to make changes to the script, depending even on the light when we shot. He wrote in the changes, and wrote them in a poetic way.

Kannada actress Aindrita Ray is not part of the Nannavanu anymore

Is kannada actress Aindrita Ray morphing into Sandalwood’s wild child? Only 21 and a handful of films old, the petite actress is never out of the news, be it for her slapgate with Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar, her party hard ways, her constant sightings with actor Diganth and now the latest controversy. Some time ago Andy had made it clear that she was no longer part of kannada film Nannavanu and would not be attending promotional meets of the film. She had, a year ago, complained to the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, that her payment was due.

The film is releasing this week and kannada Director Srinivas Raju has opened a new can of worms. He says that Aindrita was an integral part of the film and though she is arrogant, she is innocent too. “She did not attend three days of the shooting after giving the dates. Luckily, those scenes just required her presence. We have paid her 80 per cent of the remuneration but she is still not cooperating with us. There is enough proof to show that she has caused losses of Rs 12 lakh by not attending the shoot. But I am not filing any complaint against her,” he said at a press meet.

sexy Kannada actress Aindrita took on each gripe. “I was informed about the press conference only on Monday morning. I had complained more than a year ago about non-payment and the director had accepted it in front of Jaimala (KFCC President). My remuneration was much lower than Rs 12 lakh, the amount they are accusing me of wasting now. They had to come up with something negative against me anyways. It is true that I did not attend the last two days of shooting as they avoided paying me 50 per cent of my remuneration. It was the patch-up shooting and they used a stand-in,” she says.

Aindrita goes onto regret her decision to go-ahead working on the film. “It was dumb of me to complete shooting the film even after being paid only half of my fees. The producer has suffered losses because extra two hours of film were shot and had to be cut from the final version and not because I did not attend two days of a patch-up shoot. I stand by my words that I will not attend the promotional events of the film. I am not part of Nannavanu,” she says. After Meravanige, Prajwal Devraj and Aindrita Ray are paired together in this film again.

Kannada Director Nagathihalli Chandrashekar accused of slapping Actress Aindrita Ray

Kannada Actress Aindrita Ray on Thursday alleged that award-winning director Nagathihalli Chandrashekar slapped her on the sets in Hong Kong, resulting in ear damage.

Aindrita, who is shooting for Kannada movie "Nooru Janmaku Nooraaru Janmaku" directed by Nagathihalli, in a complaint to the film chamber and producers’ association, has said: “On December 6, Nagathihalli attacked me without provocation. He slapped me on the face and I am not able to hear properly from my left ear. During the shots, he behaved indecently. Before attacking me on the sets, he used to call me at nights and harass me during the shoot.”

Aindrita, who was accompanied by her mother at Hong Kong, has also said that Nagathihalli’s manager had asked her to come alone for the shoot.

Nagathihalli said the allegation is baseless. “I did not ask her not to be accompanied by her mother. She used to go for betting and would reach late on the sets. When she once came three hours late, I objected and she pushed me... I am ready for any kind of inquiry,” he said.

MEETING TODAY  (11th Dec)

KFCC president Jaimala said she will hold a meeting with Aindrita and Nagathihalli on Friday to hear their versions.

MANASAARE - Kannada Movie Review

DIRECTOR: Yogaraj Bhat
ACTORS: Diganth Manchale, Aindrita Ray, Raju Thalikote, Neetu, Pavan Kumar

Kannada movie Manasaare released this week and it was one of the most awaited film this year. This Kannada film promises for gud fun with its catchy dailogues. We rate this film with four stars.

Let’s start with the assumption that audience will not come to this movie only because Yograj Bhat also directed Mungaaru Male. Quite impossible, because that is exactly why people will buy tickets for this kannada film manasare, and not because of the unknown sugar content of doodh peda Diganth or Aindrita Ray. Bhat seems to be burdened not by expectations but by a ‘tiredof-same-old’ syndrome.

Diganth’s character says he is tired of the same old love story, marriage, road and beer. In trying not to repeat things, Bhat manages to do exactly that. The film bets excessively on its dialogues, beautiful frames, Jayanth Kaikini and Mano Murthy. These things work, but the story which is an attempt at unifying workable filmy characters starts with a bang, whimpers through the middle and fizzles out in the end.

Manohar (Diganth) is a happy-go-lucky chap content with whiling away his time despite being a burden on his family. Among his many misadventures, he is mistakenly taken into a mental institution. His attempts to convince the doctors that he is the wrong person fail. His escape missions do not come through either. In one such attempt he comes across Devaki (Aindriata Ray), another mental patient undergoing treatment at the institution. Then it is love in the times of insanity. The rest of the film is spent wondering whether these two characters will escape the prison-like hospital or get out after being certified normal.

I actually did not expect much from Manassaare and I guess that’s the reason that the film has left me dumbfounded. The movie has very few negative aspects and a lot of positive aspects. So let me summarize the negative first so that it can be forgotten and elaborate on the positives so that they remain with us.

Negative:

The second half is slightly dragged and cannot keep up to the pace of the first half.
I am not sure if andrita was the right choice to play such a intense character. She looks good thou but her character becomes slightly irrelevant after a while.
The villain doctor theme could have been avoided I think. . it ate too much of screen time from such a feel good movie otherwise.

Thumbs up . .

Digant Digant and more Digant – I couldn even imagine that Digant could have turned into such a sensitive performer. Very matured acting. Its definitely different from all his chocolate hero potrayals.

What I liked best in his performance was that he was inhibited. He has shed all his consciousness and has let himself free in front of the camera. He looks undoubtedly stunning . .his dialogue delivery is crisp and appropriate. His body language is wonderful. And he steals the show in so many places.

I donot want to reveal the plot – but the sequence where he is trying to fool the doctor to take him back, he says “yeah . . please . . . .”
Every time he says vaapaas hogana baa please . . followed by his nakhras

The comedians in the film are ooutstanding . . .Satish Ninaasam is brilliant . . along with the background score that accompanies him . .he he he . . . . . . the Dharwad Kannada Jagadguru is simply supppppppppppppppppppppppppperrrrrrrrrrrrrrbbbbbbb . . . .!!! and so is Mitra . . . with his “Batte” obsession.

satya hedge scores with his brilliant cinematography. The camera work is outstanding. I was fullu impressed with the ligting techniques used and the tone of the entire film. The warmth does not go away any where and that’s beautiful.

Hands down to this brilliant movie that’s cute . . some times disturbing and some other times thought provoking and mostly entertaining. The true winners of the movie are Yograj Bhat for his direction and his whimsically humorous writing. Satya Hegde for his brilliant visuals . . . the comedians for putting life into the film . . and for Diganth – the soul of the movie. Who has gone beyond his amaaazing looks and his dimples and doodh peda image, to turn into a very matured performer. Guys catch this movie. Don’t miss it!!!

Overall manasaare is a wachable movie for its songs, dialogues and ofcourse handsome Diganth and beautiful Aindrita Ray. Book your tickests for this movie now!!!

Kannada Movie Review - Junglee

JUNGLEE
DIRECTOR: Suri
ACTORS: Vijay, Aindrita Ray, Rangayana Raghu, Adi Lokesh, Suresh Chandra

The camera work perhaps cannot get any better; Satya Hegde seems to be at his peak. The art work by Shashidar Adapa beats the best in the business. Kannada music director Harikrishna’s music is not great but good enough. Kannada actor Vijay dishes out another good performance. But it’s the film that is the problem. It has no story, too many dialogues for Rangayana Raghu and innumerable killings to keep count. In the least, the film promises a headache.

Prabhakar aka Junglee (Vijay) wants to be a screen villain. He comes to the city with his mentor Gudde Narashima (Rangayana Raghu) who has made good friends with the underworld. Half the film is tapori talk between these two characters. The censor board may be too decent to understand the vulgarity in this street talk. There is not much else in the film except for a couple of good songs and mass murders. But kannda hot actress andrita ray looks cute.

Suri, it seems, gathers all his information from watching films in bars. So, there are more than a dozen references to scenes from other films, and if not carrying a gun or sword, then the characters hold glasses or alcohol bottles. Free download kannada film songs here.

You have been warned, watch the songs on TV and save money.

Hot kannada Aindrita Ray is flying around

Kannada sexy actress Aindrita Ray’s literally going places. The hot actress was in Austria and Italy for the shooting of Nannavanu recently. “I had such a blast in Austria. I had never seen snow in my life and my wish was fulfilled when I went there for my shooting. My films have helped me realise all my childhood dreams,” she gushes.

Then she went to Thailand. “I was there to shoot a couple of songs for my Telugu film, Sari Nee Istam. It’s my sixth visit to Thailand — it offers the best shopping experience in the world. And everything is dirt cheap. I picked up 40 pairs of shoes and 8 bags this time,” she adds. The petite lass is back in Bengaluru to shoot the remaining portions of Nannavanu. “But not for long,” she tells us, “I will be off to Australia for the remaining portions of Vayu Putra.”

Her next release is Januma Janmadallu which will release in October. “I have high hopes on the film because it has been directed by Dinesh Babu. But as of now, I’m chilling out with family and having night outs with my girl pals,” signs off hot kannada actress Aindrita.
