Ramya and Vijay in new Kannada film Jhonny Mera Naam

A two-acre set for kannada director Gubbi's new film Jhonny Mera Naam is fast turning a major tourist attraction in Mysore.

Even if we had charged a nominal Rs 10 a person, we would have collected no less than Rs 5 lakh by now,” says Mohan B Kere, the art director of kannada film Jhonny Mera Naam. The huge set he has put up for the film — starring Vijay and Ramya — in Mysore is drawing crowds and has become a major tourist attraction. Spread across two acres, it is said to be the largest outdoor set erected for a Kannada film till date — a record of sorts. On weekends, the cast and crew is finding it tough to control the crowds. (Donwload free MP3 songs here)

Built at a cost of Rs 70 lakh, the mammoth set houses a row of streets, a towering bridge, commercial establishments and a series of two-storied houses. Besides, two huge bungalows have been completely erected.

“After we discussed the story, I gave sketches and photoshop images to the director and cinematographer Krishna. There were some doubts whether the project would shape up well. Now, they are very happy as they are ahead of the schedule,” says Mohan. Ninety per cent of the film's shooting, he says, is taking place in these sets alone, including songs and fights. (Download free kannada MP3 songs / videos / lyrics here)

“Since all the ‘locations’ are in one place, shooting has progressed at a brisk pace. They can wrap up shooting by 4 pm every day,” says Mohan. The art director shot to fame with Hudugaru and has since been involved in all of Ganesh's films. Others big films include, Puneeth's Aam and Raj The Showman, Sudeep's Mussanje Maatu, Darshan's Porki and Josh.

Mohan's dream project is a 'floating village, which he was supposed to set up for Mahesh's film with Shiva Rajkumar. The film has been shelved, but Mohan is hopeful that he “will raise a similar set” for some other kannada film.

Inspired by the work, a corporator in Mysore decided to set up a similar studio. The Kala Degula studio has already started functioning from last week. (Download free kannada MP3 songs / videos / lyrics here)

Shooting of the Vijay, Ramya starrer kannada film Johny Mera Naam directed by kannada director Preetham Gubbi is progressing at a very fast pace in a special set erected in Mysore.

The set is in a 2 acre plot called Gandhi Colony. Vijay, Ramya, Rangayana Raghu and Sharan are participating in the shoot of the film which started in December.

Ramya is paired for the first time with Vijay. Ramya has been raving about the crew in her microblogging site. She says that she is having fun working in this unit and she has been in splits with both Rangayana Raghu and Sharan making the entire unit happy with their antics. (Download free kannada MP3 songs / videos / lyrics here)

Vijay has had a makeover and has reduced his weight by nearly seven kgs. "Director Preetham Gubbi wanted to see a new me along wiht a brand new hair do. I had full trust in his abilities to deliver a `pucca` entertainer through Johny Mera Naam. I have just followed what he told me. I am sure that Gubbi will achieve big success through this film as he did with his previous film", says Vijay.

Top 10 kannada films of 2010

Here is our choice of top 10 films from the Kannada film industry for the year 2010. The movies were chosen based on their box office ratings, the profit and the performances.

Aaptha Rakshaka

Director: P.Vasu
Producer: Krishna Prajwal
Cast: Dr. Vishnuvardhan, Vimala Raman, Sandhya, Bhavana, Avinash
Music: Guru Kiran.

Kannada film Aaptha Rakshaka directed by P.Vasu is a sequel to Aaptha Mithra starring Dr. Vishnuvardhan
and Soundarya. The film went on to become the biggest hit in the Kannada film industry. Dr. Vishnuvardhan died fifty days before its release.

Dr. Vishnu`s performance in the two different roles, Vasu`s interesting script and Guru Kiran`s
composition of `Chamundi Thaayi Aane` are the highest points of this Kannada film. (Download free songs,

Jackie

Director: Soori
Producer: Ms. Parvathamma Raj Kumar
Cast: Puneet Raj Kumar, Bhavana, Rangayana Raghu
Music: Hari Krishna.

This Kannada film was released on October 14 and within fifty days of the release the film was declared
a block buster hit. The combination of Power Star Puneet Raj Kumar and director Soori along with the
superb music composition of Hari Krishna and fantastic lyrics of Yogaraj Bhat helped in increasing the
box office appeal of the Kannada film.

The technical values of the film were at its peak thanks to the cameraman Sathya Hegde. Three songs of
the film `Ekka Raja Rani`, `Shiva Antha Hoguththidhe` and the title song became the biggest audio hit
two months before the film's release. Puneet's fights and dance sequences are the biggest attractions. (Download free songs, Video, MP3 here)

Super

Director: Upendra
Producer: Rockline Venkatesh
Cast: Upendra, Nayanthara
Music: Hari Krishna

The fact that kannada actor Upendra returned to direction after a gap of nearly ten years created a big
hype for this untitled film even before the release. The audio which was released two weeks before the
release also was an instant hit. Upendra's innovative direction, his dialogues and lyrics were much
appreciated by the fans.

The songs `Sikka Patte Ishta Patee` and `Kaayi Kaayi Uppina Kaayi` are big hits. The kannada film which
has been sold to all distribution areas for a good profit is also raking in huge revenues for the
distributors. (Download free songs, Video, MP3 here)

Krishnan Love Story

Director: Shashank
Producer: Uday Mehta
Cast: Ajay, Radhika Pandit
Music: Sreedhar Sambhram

Shashank`s Krishnan Love Story was a much expected kannada film. Fortunately for its producer Uday Mehta, Shashank did not disappoint anybody and the net result was that the film ran for one hundred days in a few centres of the state.

Ajay and Radhika Pandit delivered superb performances. The cinematography by Shekhar Chandra and music by Sreedhar Sambhram were much appreciated. The songs `Santheyalli Nintharoonu` and `Thumba
Aaramagidhdha` were ruling the charts for a long time. (Download free songs, Video, MP3 here)

Pancharangi

Director: Yogaraj Bhat
Producer: Yogaraj Bhat, Subramanya
Cast: Diganth, Nidhi Subbaiah.
Music: Mano Murthy

If one kannada film can become a big hit just because of the fantastic dialogues and the lyrics, then you can give the example of Pancharangi directed by Yogaraj Bhat. The lyrics for the `Lifeu Ishtene` and
`Pancharangi Haadugalu` were extremely popular, perhaps even more than Mano Murthy's music composition.

The dialogues written by Yogaraj Bhat was also much liked by the class audience. Diganth and Nidhi
Subbaiah gave good performances. (Download free songs, Video, MP3 here)

Eradaneya Maduve

Director : Dinesh Babu
Producer: Rajeev, Suresha
Cast: Anant Nag, Sudharani, Prem, Jennifer.
Music: Jayapal.

This kannada comedy film directed by Dinesh Baboo which was made on a shoe string budget was a surprise hit which even gave a big competition to big films. Anant Nag and Suhasini Maniratnam delivered strong performances, while the comedy by Sharan was enjoyed by the audience.

The film ran for fifty days and had a good run in many of the multiplexes. (Download free songs, Video, MP3 here)

Veera Parampare

Cast: Sudeep, Aindrita Ray, Ambareesh
Music: S.Narayan.

S.Narayan came back with a bang with Veera Parampare, an action oriented sentimental drama featuring
Rebel Star Ambareesh and Sudeep. Narayan's dilaogues made a good impact as much as Ambareesh and
Sudeep's fantastic performances. (Download free songs, Video, MP3 here)

Naanu Nanna Kanasu

Producer: Prakash Raj, B.Suresha
Director: Prakash Raj
Cast: Prakash Raj, Amoolya, Sithara
Music: Hamsalekha.

Naanu Nanna Kanasu is a remake of the Tamil film Abhiyum Naanum which was directed by Radhika Mohan. This was Prakash Raj`s debut as a director. The movie ran for 125 days. The strong collections for the film came in multiplexes, though it did not run too well in the interiors. Prakash Raj and Amoolya's

performance and Hamsalekha's music composition are the highlights of the film. (Download free songs, Video, MP3 here)

Porki

Director: M.D.Sridhar
Producer: Datta
Cast: Darshan, Praneetha
Music: Hari Krishna

Porki is the remake of the Telugu hit Pokkiri directed by Puri Jagannadh. The Kannada version had
Darshan in the lead role. Though the distributors made money, the producer claims that he had to sell
the film on deficit. Darshan's star appeal and Hari Krishna's music were the attractive elements of the
film. (Download free songs, Video, MP3 here)

Prithvi

Director: Jacob Varghese
Producer: M.D.Babu, Raj Kumar
Cast: Puneet Raj Kumar, Parvathy Menon
Music: Manikanth Khadri.

Prithvi starring Power Star Puneet Raj Kumar was sold for fancy rates to distributors which ensured huge
profits for the producer. Though a couple of them lost money, the film did get lot of appreciation from
class audience. The film's story revolved around an honest Deputy Commissioner who tries to control
illegal mining. Since the issue had political overtones the film was also the focus of many politicians
of the state. (Download free songs, Video, MP3 here)....

Updendra's Super kannada film is not remake

We can already imagine Uppi shaking his head in disgust and mouthing the line, “I don’t like it Kantha, I don’t like it” at the mention of this news. Because just when kannada Real Star Upendra’s Super team was celebrating the film’s unparalleled run at the BO, comes a dampener — that of plagiarism. While a little-known filmmaker accused Upendra of having plagiarised the script of Super on Wednesday, we learnt that wasn’t the only incident. Two other people also made claims that they were the original writers of Super — one even visited a local TV station to make this announcement, while the other went to the Directors’ Association.

When we spoke to kannada actor Upendra, he initially refused to comment on the issue, but then brushed off the allegations by saying, “Among the previous two who claimed the storyline was theirs, one was found to be mentally unsound, while the Directors’ Association said the other was doing it for his two minutes of fame,” added Uppi.

Then there’s the kannada filmmaker who claimed to have narrated a story similar to Super to Uppi a couple of years ago, but dropped project due to remuneration issues. “I meet 100 people every day. This guy could be one of them,” said an irritated Uppi, adding, “There are many newbies and wannabes who come to me expressing a desire to work with me. I don’t remember meeting this man, forget reading his script. And if he’s so confident that Super’s script is his, let him show me the proof,” said Uppi.

Apparently, the Real Star asked the so-called filmmaker the same question. And he said the opening scene of Super and the concept of India transforming into a superpower was his. But he neither has a copyright over the script, nor has he registered it. “Why do people wake up three weeks after a film’s release? That too, after it’s been declared a superhit? Super is an original story,” he said.

Kannada film KANASEMBO KUDUREYANNERI review

• DIRECTOR Girish Kasaravalli
• ACTORS Biradara, Umashree, Sadashiv Brahamavar, Pavithra Lokesh, Shivaranjan
• RUN TIME 90 mins
• CERTIFICATION U

At a time when fake Kasaravallis flood Kannada’s parallel cinema, the master returns to the arena, re-affirming our faith in art films. Having said that, Kanasembo Kudureyanneri is not the best of Kasaravalli’s works. As always, the film is simple in its content, but does not necessarily ignite you. (Like most of his works did).

Irya is a gravedigger and lives in pitiable condition with his wife Rudri. His belief in his profession prevents him from taking any other labour. But it is not every day that someone dies in the village. His wife takes up the responsibility of earning the daily morsel. Irya dreams of Siddha, his community God, promising him ‘work’ the following day. He believes the village landlord has passed away. But his belief is shattered when he is told there has been no death. His wife’s dream of Siddha's arrival also proves to be false. But the reality turns out to be something different. Irya's dreams are crushed from becoming realities by the manner in which the well-off people in the village use it to re-establish and save their own belief systems.

The non-linear narrative, a first in Kasaravalli films, was not completely essential. Only in two scenes does it have some impact. The technique is not used to reveal different perspectives of the same situation by different people, but only to show some additional information, not visible to the other. The climax seems like an afterthought that does not exactly connect with the original storyline.

Brilliant in Irya’s role, kannada acotr Biradara proves his talent after being marginalised in commercial cinema as a comedian. As convincing is Umashree as Rudri. Veteran actor Sadashiv Brahamavar should pick up an award or two for his role in the film.

Kasaravalli's attention to detail, in all departments, is the reason for the good show by every actor and technician in the film. V Manohar's music is rustic and charming and ‘more’ than what you find in regular art films. HM Ramachandra's cinematography is another major highlight. Kanasembo Kudureyanneri is a good film for serious film aficionados; but it does not ignite you. Not quite a master’s work, shall we add. Yet, it has glimpses of his brilliance.

New Kannada fim Lifeu Ishtena?

Kannada director Yograj Bhat is lending his name and banner toLifeu Ishtena?, a bilingual, which will be directed by his assistant Pawan.

Yograj Bhat's assistant and cowriter Pawan Kumar is turning director. But unlike his mentor, the young man is looking to establish his name across the border. The film Lifeu Ishtena? will be made in both Kannada and Tamil.

When we queried the mentor about his contribution to his prodigy's film, he said, “I am providing both moral and immoral support to the project.” Hmmm...whatever that means! Lifeu Ishtena? is produced by Manjunath (Jack Manju) while Yograj productions will be associated with it. “It is no longer feasible to make profits out of Kannada films alone. We have to look beyond it. Yograj Bhat is an easily recognisable name outside the state too,” said Manju.

He was hoping that Yograj fans outside Karnataka would appreciate their “bilingual efforts”.
“Moreover, fresh faces are easily accepted in Tamil. We are hoping to make a dedicated effort in the bilingual. Fresh faces are a bonus in Tamil," he added.

Diganth will play the lead in the film. Talking about the film, Bhat says,”“The script by Pawan is wonderful. It required a wider canvas. The film is a big-budget film and my banner will be a part of the project. I will be writing only a couple of songs.”

The title in Tamil is yet to be finalised as English words cannot be used in Tamil Nadu.

Kannada film Mylari release got delayed

Kannada film actor Shiva Rajkumar’s 99th film Mylari deferred after it fails to reach the Censor Board.

Shiva Rajkumar's 99th kannada film Mylari will not release this Friday as planned earlier. The R Chandru-directed flock had a frantic shooting schedule and post-production to meet the date, but it proved too late. At the last minute, the Censor Board officials did not watch the film on Monday. The kannada movie was finally censored on Wednesday and got a U/A certificate. Free download kannada film Mylari sogs here.

Undeterred, the film's producer, KP Srikanth, says the film will get one more week for publicity. (Free kannada film Mylari pictures)

Meanwhile, Mylari has lived up to its hype, being one of the selected kannada films this year that was sold outright to distributors in all territories. Sources said the producer had already made profits. Of late, distributors are picking up films for distribution only on commission basis. Shiva Rajkumar, at 99, is still rocking. (Free download kannada MP3 here)

Kannada film Director Chandru is thrilled as well. “Rajkumar said he was very happy with the new look I had given in the film and the fact that the film has garnered such hype,” he said. Besides, Chandru has signed the actor for his next two projects.

Karnataka State Film Awards - 2008-09

Like in the past, this year too, the state kannada cinema awards weren’t free from controversies. At a press conference to announce the awards here on Friday, a few journalists objected to the selection of K S R Das for the Puttanna Kanagal Award. They argued that Das had done many remake films and films depicting violence and hence didn’t deserve to win the award named after the great kannada direcotr Puttanna Kanagal, who is known for his originality.

Awards committee selection chairman veteran director Bhargava said that they had considered four persons — Das, Girish Karnad, D Rajendra Babu and P H Vishwanath — for the award and had selected Das. Referring to Karnad, he said: “Karnad is the recipient of awards like Jnanpith and Padma Bhushan. So, we thought this award was small,’’ Bhargava said. When the media took exception to this and said it was an insult to the director, Kannada and culture secretary Ramesh Zalki and information director Muddu Mohan intervened and requested the journalists not to make a controversy. The trio discussed amongst themselves and then announced that they were giving it to Karnad.

Das (74) is known in Kannada and Telugu film industries. Some of his movies in Kannada are Kaidi, Tirugubaana, Sahodarara Savaal, Nanna Prathigne, Bangarada Gudi and Ondagi Baalu.

Sudeep (Mussanje Maathu) and Ajay Rao (Taj Mahal) were in the race for the best actor’s award, while Ramya (Mussanje Maathu) and Supritha (Ambari) were in the race for the best actress award. Asked whether Ramya was not considered for the award as she did not dub her voice, Bhargava said: “That was not the issue at all. If it was so, why would the government institute a separate award for voice dubbing?’’

In the beginning, it was about two members — Banandur Kempaiah, an employee of DD and director D Rajendra Babu — dropping off from the 9-member panel. “We watched the movies for 8-9 hours a day. Being an employee of DD, he said he couldn’t spare that much time. The government should have given it a thought before nominating him,’’ Bhargava said.

Wedding bells for kannada director Suri

He will marry his long-time sweetheart Pallavi, a painter.

Ace kannada director Suri is set to marry his long-time girlfriend Pallavi. Hailing from Davangere, Pallavi is an accomplished painter while Suri started as a painter and turned to artdirection, dialogue writing and then directing. Known each other for nearly five years, the two will tie the knot in at Kollur’s Mookambika temple near Mangalore on December 8.

“Only members of both the families will be present. Later, we will have a reception in Bangalore,” said Suri.

“I knew the girl and the families have approved, so it can be called love-cum-arranged marriage. It will be a simple function in the temple. True, it is about 450 km from Bangalore and that is the reason we will have a reception later,” Suri said. Sources said Mookambika shrine was Suri's mother’s choice. The wedding was advanced as the month of Ashada is to set in soon. “Otherwise the marriage would have happened held only next year,” Suri said.

Suri is basking in the success of his latest film Jackie, which has become the highest-grossing Kannada film during its 50-day run at the box office.

Super Kannada movie review

• DIRECTOR Upendra
• ACTORS Upendra, Nayanatara (average looking), Sadhu Kokila, Sudarshan, Tulip Joshi
• RUN TIME 135 mins (good!!)

Does the audience expect kannada actor Upendra, who has returned to direct a kannada film after 10 years, to do the same old routine? He carries the unenviable burden of having to create something unique everytime he comes up with a film. Maybe, that is why he stayed away for so many years. The actordirector-story-writer picks up his pet theme of 'cleaning up India,' an idea he propagated in his old film Operation Antha, where he appears like a messiah, with his preachy monologues. (Free download super songs here)

The film begins in 2030. Our Vidhana Soudha stands shining amidst Manhattan-type skyscrapers and Mysore brims with an international airport. Spotless roads are cleaned by white-skinned foreigners, who also take up all menial jobs. A rupee is worth 80 British pounds and India looks like a high-school boy's Utopian dream. This is the best part of the film, an unbelievable fantasy worth enjoying (at least) on the screen. Back in 2010, one man changed the country forever. (You must have guessed? Who else?)

Subash Chandra Gandhi (Upendra) is an Indian-origin businessman in London who can distinguish between the soil of India and England by just smell itself. A gift of packed soil from India is enough to seal any business deal with him. He marries an authentic Indian woman Indira (Nayantara) and after her betrayal begins to change the country to win her back.

Such fantasy journeys have been a forte of directors like Shankar (Shivaji - The Boss, Enthiran). Besides the obvious inspiration, Upendra borrows heavily from his own Operation Antha. But, many copied Upendra in the last 10 years and managed to outdo him. Super turns out to be an amalgamated story, having picturised the same-old sequences in his previous flicks. Dialogues have always been his strength, but here many seem coerced. Some of them do entertain, enticing applause occasionally.
The songs too pale in comparison to his earlier films.

Super is replete with references to many current political events in the state. Like Gandhi becomes the chief minister with the help of mining barons Chaddi Brothers, who 'resort' to horse trading.

By the way, Subash Gandhi's knowledge of English must have been through Kannada films. There is the 'by-the-by' phrase, unique to Kannada films, uttered twice. Barring a few episodes, the film does not stand up. An average film overall.

Kannada actres Radhika baby daugher picture

Kannada actress and politian girl friend Radhika who ruled the Kannada film industry in the early part of this decade has now revealed the big secret. She has disclosed in an interview with a Kannada newspaper that she has a daughter named Shamitha K Swamy (It is said that Radhika baby named after Kumara Swamy). Below is the Radhika baby daughter photo/picture.

"Yes, I am married to a big time politician in Karnataka who was also the Chief Minister of the state. But I do not want to disclose his name as I don`t think traditional Indian women utter their husbands` name. Every woman reveres her husband as a god. He has looked after me very well", says Radhika. This is a clear indication that she is married to the former Chief Minister and Member of Parliament H.D.Kumara Swamy who is now leading the battle against the present Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa.

Radhika was one of the busiest heroines of the Kannada film industry who however excelled in sister roles. Her two films with Shivaraj Kumar, Tavarige Baa Thangi and Anna Thangi, were blockbusters. She also acted in glamorous roles with Darshan (Mandya) and heroin centric roles in many other films.

"I am told that some tabloids had even written that my daughter is now studying in London. But these are all fabricated without any basis. Now, I am happily married and I am looking after my daughter. I want to give her the best education possible as I was not able to do so in my younger days", says Radhika.

Radhika`s last Kannada film Eshwar directed by Om Prakash Rao opposite Audithya has not seen the light of the day. The film was purchased on outright basis by Radhika's brother from its producer Shankare Gowda. Radhika says that the film will be released soon. Incidentally, Radhika also acted in a Telugu film directed by Kodi Ramakrishna.

Kannada comedy actor Sharan

Kannada Actor sharan runs into trouble again with the crew of kannada film Mattondu Maduvena, this time over boorish conduct.

It is tough times for Kannada comedy actor Sharan. The trouble started when he demanded full payment from producer Umesh Banakar before he dubbed for Mattondu Maduvena, leading to some unsavoury moments. Making things worse, Banakar has now accused the actor of not taking his calls prior to a press conference. The director, too, dialled up, but in vain.

It is learnt Kannada comedy actor Sharan (Watch kannada comedy scenes / video here) did not respond to the calls despite repeated attempts. But Sharan later called the film’s production manager, enquiring him why the producer had called.

“This is bad. He did not respond to my calls. Later, he replied to the text-message and agreed to attend the event. During shooting breaks, he would be on the cell phone always. So I do not understand why he cannot pick our calls. I am very upset with him,” the film’s director Baboo said.

The duel started with Sharan expressing displeasure on the payment. His remuneration was Rs 7.5 lakh out of which only Rs 2.5 lakh was paid through cheque. The rest he wanted in cash. The producer deducted Rs 25,000 from the payment as he had to pay TDS. But Sharan wanted the full amount as he was unwilling to reclaim the TDS amount after filing income-tax returns.

“Actors like Anant Nag, Suhasini and Tara did not trouble us. But Sharan, a wonderful actor beyond doubts, should not waste his care by such behaviour,” said Baboo.

Kannada fim Bisile movie review

• DIRECTOR Sandeep S Gowda
• ACTORS Diganth, Jennifer Kotwal, Dwarakish, Jai Jagadish

Breezy and unpretentious, that is Sandeep’s kannada film Bisile for you. The newcomer deserves praise for a groovy narrative, lovable characters and witty dialogues.

The story goes like this: Vicky (Diganth) is a happy-golucky student whose obsession is showing off before his friends and managing money for booze. Though his flamboyance helps him wriggle out of trouble every time, his efforts at wooing Anu (his neighbour and collegemate) come a cropper as she barely acknowledges him. On a trip to Bisile Ghat, a thick forest area, the two get lost and love blossoms in the woods.

To the credit of director (who has written the story and dialogues as well) the film rolls like an effortless creation on the screen though the efforts behind the scenes could have been arduous. However, it is the fine-tuning of each character that makes the film captivating. Like Dwarakish with his obsession for a military career or Jai Jagadish as a father reluctant to see his daughter fall for a dandy. Even smaller characters stand out, like Biradara, who appears for less than a minute. So are the roles of Lakshmidevamma, Shivaram, Maina Chandru and Umesh. (Free download Bisile kannada film songs)

Though the storyline is slim, it is amply made up by dialogues. In this aspect, Diganth gets to mouth dialogues which his mentor Yograj Bhat made popular once — and it never goes over the top. Effortless, Bisile must be Diganth's best film to date. For the visual canopy he provides, Niranjan Babu, the cinematographer, too deserves a special mention. Sandeep’s dazzling debut offers a rare sunshine for Kannada industry. Bisile is a beauty. Soak in. (Download free MP3 kannada songs)

Though chocolate boy kannada actor Diganth, affectionately called 'Doodhpeda Diganth', has achieved success through Yogaraj Bhat directed kannada films, he has not been able to repeat the magic in films directed by others. But Diganth is confident that his new film Bisile directed by newbie director Sandeep S. Gowda will erase this notion in the trade circles. (Donwload sexy kannada actress pictures)

Kiran Reddy is the producer along with Chandru Gowda. Sandeep Gowda who has written the story, screenplay and dialogues of the film says the story revolves around two youngsters with different upbringing and mindsets meeting in a trekking program. How they understand each other and fall in love forms the story. It is a feel good story with a lot of comic elements and a little bit of emotion. 'Bisile will change the common belief that Jennifer can only dance and look bubbly on screen. Diganth has also undergone a radical transformation', says Sandeep Gowda.

'We wanted to release the film in good theatres and multiplexes after Pancharangi and were prepared to wait', says Kiran Reddy. Dwarakish, Chitra Shenoy, Umesh, Sunethra Pandit, Late Maina Chandru are the other artists of the film.

'Mast Majaa Maadi was a hit, but unfortunately I was one of the four heroes in the film. But I think Bisile will certainly be liked by my fans as the story is youth oriented. I will always be grateful to Yogaraj Bhat for picking me in all his films since Mungaru Male. Bisile is a neat film with good songs and visuals. It is a complete film', says Diganth. (Read kannada actor Digant biography)

The film's heroine Jennifer says it is the best role in her career. 'I had to go on a trekking tour to many places. I saw the best of temples, jungles during the shoot', says Jennifer. Niranjan Babu is the cameraman. Gagan Bateria and Rishi Hari team up for the music.

Kannada film director B Suresh

Kannada actor and director Ravichandran once noticed a guy working very hard to put up the set of a film. He enquired if he was the art director of the kannada film. To his surprise he found that the guy was actually its assistant director. Ravichandran immediately picked him up for his next kannada film (Free download Ravichandran movies and songs here). Earning around Rs 7,000 for writing dialouges and working on the script, the youngster had not seen better days. He wrote the dialogues for Ravichandran’s Putnanja and during the course had been paid Rs 13,000; almost double of what he would earn in other kannada films.

On the day of the film’s release he reached Sagar cinema hall late as his bike ran out of petrol. Nobody recognised him and since he wasn’t carrying money to buy a kannada film ticket, he chose to push his bike back to Ravichandran’s office. He wanted to leave it there for safety and reach home. Ravichandran called him inside and enquired if he had received the payment. “Yes sir. Long back,” came the reply. “Did you take the payment today?” asked Ravi and the youth was thrilled and surprised that there was more money coming his way.

“Ravichandran put 1.30 lakh in my hands. It was the first time I was holding so much money. The total payment I received for the kannada film was now Rs 1.44 lakh. When I took it home, my wife did not believe me. She said I must have stolen the money. That film made me a star,” remembers B Suresha. Kannada director Suresha went on to direct two films; Tapori and Artha and produce a few others. In the meantime he has written and directed more than 4,000 episodes of various serials. Suresha says that the confidence money gives is immense. “It is power in the pocket,” he says.

He has started directing his third kannada film, Puttakkana Highway, that has Prakash Rai and Shruti in the lead. It is based on a short story written by Nagatihalli Chandrashekar. For a change Hamsalekha will be composing music for the lyrics of another writer. Yograj Bhat has penned three songs.

GAANA BAJANA - New Kannada film review

• DIRECTOR: Prashanth Raj
• ACTORS : Tharun Chandra, Radhika Pandit, Dilip Raj, Sharan, CR Simha, Yeshwanth Sirdeshpande

There is a superstition in the kannada film industry -if someone’s lucky for you, use them till they turn unlukcy! Looks like Prashanth, director of kannada film Gaana Bajana (Free download Gana bajana songs here), is following that dictum. He’s repeated the three main actors from his debut kannada film Love Guru. Not only that, even the characters in Gaana Bajana seems similar to Love Guru. Deja vu! However, the film scores in style. With youngsters as his target audience, Prashanth keeps the film fast-paced enough to keep them glued.

It's a simple love story. Two youngsters, Krish (Tharun) and Radhe (Radhika Pandit) fall in love and the relationship develops at the usual city hangouts. There is Dilip Raj playing a dandy who gives the film a fillip every time he is on screen. Radhe initially rejects Krish because she loves the other guy. The premise is mundane. But the stylish presentation somehow makes you want to tolerate the film, which lacks in substance. Gaana Bajana is entertaining for the sake of being entertaining.

Joshua Sridhar's music, which remains 'inspired', is the highlight of the film. Shekar's camerawork allows Prashanth what he wanted, an avant-garde Kannada production. Take a break from the serious stuff and enjoy this kannada film.

Kannada actres Radhika Pandit bags puneet's next kannada film

Crazy Star Ravichandran seems to be Puneet Raj Kumar's lucky mascot when it comes to launching his films. Right from Puneet's first film Appu to the recently released Jackie he has been the chosen one.
It was no surprise when he was invited for Puneet's new kannada film which was launched recently at Kanteerava studios, Bangalore. The movie is yet to be titled, which is a remake of hit film nadodigal. Many top signatories of the film industry including Mr.Basanth Kumar Patil President of KFCC and many leading artists attended the muhurath.

Shivaraj Kumar, brother of Puneet and Mrs Parvathamma Raj Kumar were there to bless the new project which is a remake of the trend setting Tamil film Nadodigal. Radhika Pandith, Loose Mada star Yogish, Srinagara Kitty are playing other major roles in the kannada movie.

This is the 79th film of Vajreshwari Combines, Dr. Raj's family banner. It is being directed by K Madesha, music is by V Harikrishna and Sathya Hegde is wielding the camera.

Kannada film Mylari music controversy

The posters of kannada film Mylari, the 99th film of Shiva Rajkumar, seem to have a bug. The posters mention either Ashwini Audio or Anand Audio as the company through which the kannada film's music is available. The film’s audio was launched recently and Mohan Chabria of Anand Audio had said that the film had sold a record number of audio units before its theatrical release.

The presence of Ashwini Audio’s name on the posters is due to a business arrangement that was not kept. Ashwini Audio’s Ram Prasad owned the title Mylari, the rights to which he had steadfastly refused to give. That failed to deter the film's director R Chandru and producer Srinivas from using the title during any promotional activity. Ram Prasad had even complained to the Film Chamber about it. Finally, the good offices of Shiva Rajkumar and Ram Prasad’s brother Krishna Prasad solved the dispute.

As a peace offering, Ram Prasad was promised the audio rights of the film. But the understanding did not come to fruition as the audio rights were sold to Anand Audio. “It is not easy recovering money on big films. So we let it go,” says Krishna Prasad, prefering not to comment on the news that the audio rights were given to a rival company without his knowledge. The posters carrying the Ashwini Audio logo are the relics of this earlier understanding.

“It was their (Ashwini) film and I didn’t think it would come to me in my wldest dreams. Ashwini gave me a no-objection certificate but they did not reveal the reason and I did not ask. As for the name and logo on the posters, buyers really do not bother or worry about it. They do not ask why a particular film's music has not been released by a particular audio company. If that was the case there would be no piracy,” said Mohan Chabria.

Upendra's new kannada film super

Like the picture says, please squint, overlap the two images and find a third image jumping out at you. That’s what you need to do to view the 3D poster of Uppi’s latest kannada film super. Because the man doesn’t go by the usual print ads, posters and TV interviews. And trust the Real Star to come up with an innovative promotional tactic every couple of months in the run-up to his kannada film’s release.

After the hand symbol and the unique ad that called for upcoming talent to feature in his kannada film, the latest are 3D posters of his film featuring leading lady Nayanthara and him. “It’s the concept that conveys the theme of my movie. Just like the images, there are two tracks in my film that have a common link leading to a third story,” explains Upendra. And the idea behind it, he reveals, is to educate audiences about the subject of the story in a unique way rather than just talking about it. And his entire team was involved in the making of the poster. “Since the title Super was also suggested by the audience — which they arrived at after getting a dekko at the hand symbol — I felt they’d be able to figure out the storyline through this 3D image,” he tells us.

But he’s been so secretive about the subject of his film all this while. “Ella vishaya helidre cinema nodo maja yelli? The audience will not feel special when they watch this kannada film,” he reasons. But the Real Star promises that Super will have all the elements of a full-on entertainer — including love, revenge, mast dialogues and even foot-tapping music — like all his previous directorials. “Most of all, our film is based on comedy and sarcasm,” he reveals. The actor plans to hold the audio release of the film in the first week of November and release the film later that month.

Kannada beauty Nidhi interview and pictures

Trrrr. Recognised that? Kannada film PanchaRangi fans would immediately relate it to Nidhi Subbaiah’s character in the Yogaraj Bhat film. “In fact, many people have told me that they loved my role, especially the ‘Trrrr’ dialogue,” says Nidhi, who’s thrilled with the success of the film, which recently celebrated 50 days at the BO.

The Coorg lass admits that until now, no director has been able to tap her real talent. “I was unrecognised until Pancha Rangi happened. My true potential was tapped in this kannada film. The audience got a glimpse into my acting skills and discovered that I too could be a wholesome artiste,” she tells us.

And life has changed a lot for her since Pancha Rangi’s release. “People look at me differently now. They’ve realised that I not only have the acting chops, but also the ability to groove,” she says.
She’s all praise for her director Yogaraj Bhat. “It’s every heroine’s dream to work with him. He’s a class apart. Yog sir functions in a different way, just like one of those new-age directors. He gets the best out of you without you realising it. Another thing is that he’d write the dialogues on the spot. He’d gauge you as a person and write the dialogues accordingly. That’s the kind of genius he is,” states Nidhi. Nidhi’s on-screen chemistry with her co-star kannada actor Diganth (see also biography, age, family photo) has drawn much praise.

The actress tells us that he’s exactly like his Pancha Rangi character in real life. “Totally chilled out. I thought that since he’s worked with Yog sir in so many movies, he’d have a bit of an attitude, the ‘I’ve worked with this team so many times’ kind. But he’s so humble and chilled out. He doesn’t interfere with your shots or hair and make-up. I’ve worked with heroes who poked their nose into everything. Diganth minds his business and I did the same on the sets,” she reveals. Her current project Veera Bahu sees her play a traditional Iyengar girl. “A complete turnaround from the shorts-sporting girl of Pancha Rangi. I’m just like an S Mahendar heroine — wise, calm and with strong values,” explains the actress, who’s happy she got to be part of a “real action sequence”, replete with bullets, gundas and “me running in a saree”. “And when I’m not shooting, I chill at home or spend time with friends. I have friends in the industry, but I don’t discuss work with them,” she wraps up.

Kannada comedy actor Komal as woman in vaare vah

The kannada comedy actor has done Aamir’s ardhanareeshwara act, which the B-town star did for a satellite TV ad in his forthcoming kannada film Vaare Vah.

Here comes a confession from director Vijaylakshmi Singh. Apparently, the hero of her upcoming film Vaare Vah, Komal, “is a man with a woman’s heart”. “And gradually, he becomes so sensitive to the needs and feelings of women that he’s able to understand them even more than they know themselves,” adds Vijaylakshmi. The director is talking about Komal’s character in Vaare Vah, a movie that we hear is based on the Mel Gibson-starrer What Women Want. That’s why Komal’s posed as a woman in the posters of the film, which Vijaylakshmi says has become a talking point among fans.

Point out to her that not long ago, Aamir Khan was seen essaying a similar part — a half-man, halfwoman — for the promos of a satellite TV, and Vijaylakshmi agrees that the commercial was actually the i n s p i r at i o n b e h i n d Komal’s look. “I really liked the ad and it gelled with our storyline,” she tells us. “Komal’s role in the film is something that hasn’t been experimented with before and he’s done full justice to it. According to the script, he’s supposed to connect with women and tap their inner being. Even though it’s just an act, Komal has impressed us all with his portrayal,” explains Vijaylakshmi.

So as an extension to the act, they asked him if he’d dress up like an ardhanareeshwara, for which Komal was game. “He would sit for his makeover for three hours and uncomplainingly get his hair and make-up done,” she says. Komal adds that even though the act is just a symbolic representation of what he essays in the film, he enjoyed every bit of playing a woman and the attention that came with it.

Amoolya in new kannada film Manasolage

The Cheluvina Chittara girl was the cynosure of all eyes, causing a minor commotion while shooting in Mysore.

Looks like namma Cheluvina Amulya has put the alleged kiss episode behind her and moved on. And good for her, we say. The kannada actress amoolya has also proved her detractors wrong and even put speculation of losing out on fans and her position in the market after the scandal to rest. This, the teenager proved while shooting for a kannada film recently in Mysore.

We hear that kannada actress Amulya caused a mini-stampede while shooting for her latest film, Manasologe. The film’s unit was shooting on Urs Road close to the Chamundi Guest House while the incident occurred. “Film actors and movie sets are a common sight in Mysore as the city has once again become a favourite location for filmmakers,” says our khabru. “But on Monday m o r n i n g , while I was passing by Urs Road with a friend, it was a rather strange sight. People were tripping over each other to get a closer look at the proceedings. On enquiring, I was told that Amulya was shooting for a film. And people were very curious to see her,” he adds.

Director Deepak Urs admits that he was also surprised by the turnout. “It got really tough to control the crowd after a point. Everyone was screaming, “Aishu, Aishu”, which was Amulya’s screen name in Cheluvina Chittara. We’ve seen people whistling in theatres. This is the first time we’ve experienced a volley of whistles when a heroine completed a take,” adds Deepak.

As for Amulya, she’s thrilled with the response she elicited from onlookers. “It’s a high for any artiste when the audience showers you with so much love. And to witness such adulation at my age feels like an achievement. Even when I had come for kannada actress Premism, people showed me the same love,” she says.

Deepak, who’s also her brother, adds that all the bitter incidents are in the past. “A 60-year old man came to me and confessed how his entire household loved Amulya and that he’s happy that she hasn’t been bogged down by the s c a n d a l , ” adds Deepak, who is also prod u c i n g this kannada film.

Is kannada actor Darshan and Nikhita rumour true?

What is cooking between Kannada film industry's leading star Darshan and multilingual actress Nikitha? If a gossip of well circulated Kannada tabloids is to be believed, both Darshan and Nikitha are cosy with each other and got married a few days ago.

Some tabloids have also written kannada actor Darshan has even brought a flat in Mumbai for the glamorous actress who is now busy in Kannada and Tamil films. There were also some rumours circulating that Darshan is slowly moving away from his wife Vijayalakshmi with whom he has been married for five years. The couple has a two year old son.
Darshan has not been reacting to these reports.

The unit members working for the Kannada film Prince which is now being shot in Mysore says that the actor has just laughed at these rumours. This is the first time that he has been linked to any of his co-artists as he has always claimed that he does not involve himself in choosing his heroine and would be happy to work with whom so ever the producer or director chooses.

Nikitha said that the whole thing is funny. The actress said that she has been meeting Vijayalakshmi practically every day on the sets of Prince and both of them are just laughing at these atrocious and baseless rumours. "Three days ago Vijayalakshmi Madam even told me that some more reports may come in a few tabloids. She said that she is not bothered with such rumours. There was a marriage sequence that was shot in Mysore for this film. Director Om Prakash shot the sequence for two days and within a few days I found speculative reports appearing in press that Darshan sir and I are married. It is so ridiculous. Why should these tabloids paint me in the black and spread false rumours. And none of these journalists have talked to me or to any other unit members to ascertain the truth. It is plain silly," says Nikitha.

Nikitha who has worked with Darshan in kannada film Yodha an year ago has signed two films with the actor in the past few months. Prince is the first of these two films and she has also been signed to play the lead in the historical film Sangolli Raayanna directed by Naganna. She has signed another new Kannada film with Ramesh Arvind.

Kannada actress Radhika to star opposite Puneet Rajkumar

Everything is going right for Kannada film industry’s new sensational talent Radhika Pandit. Just last week her kannada film Krishnan Love Story completed a hundred day run establishing her as a dependable actress in the Box office.

A few days ago she won the Best actress Filmfare award for her performance in kannada film Love Guru and was nominated for the same award for the South Scope Cine award. And now the biggest feather in her cap has come about as she has been confirmed as the heroine for Puneet Raj Kumar in the Kannada remake of Tamil Hit Nadodigal which is to be produced under Power Star’s home banner Vajreshwari Combines.

Radhika Pandit has already signed Adhdhoori where she is being paired with Dhruv Sarja. The film is starting its regular shooting from October 4.

Nadodigal will be launched on October 17, Vijayadhashami day. The regular shooting of the film may start from the next day.

Kannada actress Vaishali Kasaravalli: A multifaceted personality

Later she married Girish Kasaravalli. In kannada films like Ganeshana Maduve, Vaishali outclassed even the leading artists by her comical performance as a cricket enthusiast who is extremely fond of Sachin Tendulkar.

Vaishali was a natural choice for many serials including Maya Mruga and Manvanthara. Namma Nammalli directed by T.S.Nagabharana was the first of the kannada serials she was featured in. Later she worked in Sadhane and the Hindi serial Malgudi Days.

Vaishali took a lot of interest in directing plays and teleserials. She assisted Girish Kasaravalli as a costume designer and even got a National award for her work in Thaayi Sahebha. Then she worked on Moodala Mane which became a popular television serial.

After a long hibernation, actress-director Vaishali Kasaravalli returned to work as a director of a tele serial. The intervening period saw her come out from a near fatal sickness. She continued her winning streak with the tele serial Muththina Thorana.

She won the Nataka Academy award for her contribution to the theatre. Earlier she had won the Karnataka Rajyothsava award and many awards for her performance as an actress and a director of theatre and teleserials.

Is Endhiran kannada film Hollywood remake?

The uncanny resemblance between Upendra’s 2002 sci-fi film and Rajinikanth’s latest has tongues wagging in Kannada filmdom.

The latest revelation about Endhiran, the costliest Indian film that has Rajinikanth playing three characters in the film, has people agog in the Kannada film industry. The whispers going around say that the film could be a lot more similar to Upendra’s Hollywood than anticipated.

Hollywood, kannada movie, directed by Dinesh Baboo, was written by kannada actor Upendra, who also played a triple role in the film. The film had Upendra playing a scientist’s (Anant Nag) assistant. The scientist creates an android resembling Upendra to help him win over a girl. The girl is charmed by Upendra’s brother (Upendra again) The android falls in love with the girl and tries to eliminate Upendra. In the end, the android gives up its life trying to save Upendra. The speculation about the resemblance of the two films started after it was revealed that in Shankar’s Endhiran Rajinikanth plays both man and the robot. With the latest news that he plays three characters, the chorus has grown and discussions on Internet forums have reached a feverish pitch.

Dinesh Baboo, who directed this kannada flick Hollywood, says, “I can’t comment on similarities as I have not seen Endhiran. But people here are telling me that whatever has been revealed about that film closely resembles Hollywood. If it is so, it will be a rich man’s Hollywood; ours was a poor man’s make. In our kannada film, the android also creates another robot resembling the heroine to fool Upendra. So there are two robots apart from the hero playing three roles.” A real monkey played an important role in Hollywood and till now Endhiran does not seem to have any animal playing a role.

Kannada actor Upendra had earlier said that while he was working on the film, he had heard that Shankar was also planning a film themed on robots. According to Upendra it was only when Shankar told him that his film would be delayed that our Kannada star continued with his project. But eight years later, rumours have built up again. Australian actress Felicity Mason was the leading lady in Hollywood.
