Updendra's Super kannada film is not remake

We can already imagine Uppi shaking his head in disgust and mouthing the line, “I don’t like it Kantha, I don’t like it” at the mention of this news. Because just when kannada Real Star Upendra’s Super team was celebrating the film’s unparalleled run at the BO, comes a dampener — that of plagiarism. While a little-known filmmaker accused Upendra of having plagiarised the script of Super on Wednesday, we learnt that wasn’t the only incident. Two other people also made claims that they were the original writers of Super — one even visited a local TV station to make this announcement, while the other went to the Directors’ Association.

When we spoke to kannada actor Upendra, he initially refused to comment on the issue, but then brushed off the allegations by saying, “Among the previous two who claimed the storyline was theirs, one was found to be mentally unsound, while the Directors’ Association said the other was doing it for his two minutes of fame,” added Uppi.

Then there’s the kannada filmmaker who claimed to have narrated a story similar to Super to Uppi a couple of years ago, but dropped project due to remuneration issues. “I meet 100 people every day. This guy could be one of them,” said an irritated Uppi, adding, “There are many newbies and wannabes who come to me expressing a desire to work with me. I don’t remember meeting this man, forget reading his script. And if he’s so confident that Super’s script is his, let him show me the proof,” said Uppi.

Apparently, the Real Star asked the so-called filmmaker the same question. And he said the opening scene of Super and the concept of India transforming into a superpower was his. But he neither has a copyright over the script, nor has he registered it. “Why do people wake up three weeks after a film’s release? That too, after it’s been declared a superhit? Super is an original story,” he said.

Super Kannada movie review

• DIRECTOR Upendra
• ACTORS Upendra, Nayanatara (average looking), Sadhu Kokila, Sudarshan, Tulip Joshi
• RUN TIME 135 mins (good!!)

Does the audience expect kannada actor Upendra, who has returned to direct a kannada film after 10 years, to do the same old routine? He carries the unenviable burden of having to create something unique everytime he comes up with a film. Maybe, that is why he stayed away for so many years. The actordirector-story-writer picks up his pet theme of 'cleaning up India,' an idea he propagated in his old film Operation Antha, where he appears like a messiah, with his preachy monologues. (Free download super songs here)

The film begins in 2030. Our Vidhana Soudha stands shining amidst Manhattan-type skyscrapers and Mysore brims with an international airport. Spotless roads are cleaned by white-skinned foreigners, who also take up all menial jobs. A rupee is worth 80 British pounds and India looks like a high-school boy's Utopian dream. This is the best part of the film, an unbelievable fantasy worth enjoying (at least) on the screen. Back in 2010, one man changed the country forever. (You must have guessed? Who else?)

Subash Chandra Gandhi (Upendra) is an Indian-origin businessman in London who can distinguish between the soil of India and England by just smell itself. A gift of packed soil from India is enough to seal any business deal with him. He marries an authentic Indian woman Indira (Nayantara) and after her betrayal begins to change the country to win her back.

Such fantasy journeys have been a forte of directors like Shankar (Shivaji - The Boss, Enthiran). Besides the obvious inspiration, Upendra borrows heavily from his own Operation Antha. But, many copied Upendra in the last 10 years and managed to outdo him. Super turns out to be an amalgamated story, having picturised the same-old sequences in his previous flicks. Dialogues have always been his strength, but here many seem coerced. Some of them do entertain, enticing applause occasionally.
The songs too pale in comparison to his earlier films.

Super is replete with references to many current political events in the state. Like Gandhi becomes the chief minister with the help of mining barons Chaddi Brothers, who 'resort' to horse trading.

By the way, Subash Gandhi's knowledge of English must have been through Kannada films. There is the 'by-the-by' phrase, unique to Kannada films, uttered twice. Barring a few episodes, the film does not stand up. An average film overall.

Upendra's new kannada film super

Like the picture says, please squint, overlap the two images and find a third image jumping out at you. That’s what you need to do to view the 3D poster of Uppi’s latest kannada film super. Because the man doesn’t go by the usual print ads, posters and TV interviews. And trust the Real Star to come up with an innovative promotional tactic every couple of months in the run-up to his kannada film’s release.

After the hand symbol and the unique ad that called for upcoming talent to feature in his kannada film, the latest are 3D posters of his film featuring leading lady Nayanthara and him. “It’s the concept that conveys the theme of my movie. Just like the images, there are two tracks in my film that have a common link leading to a third story,” explains Upendra. And the idea behind it, he reveals, is to educate audiences about the subject of the story in a unique way rather than just talking about it. And his entire team was involved in the making of the poster. “Since the title Super was also suggested by the audience — which they arrived at after getting a dekko at the hand symbol — I felt they’d be able to figure out the storyline through this 3D image,” he tells us.

But he’s been so secretive about the subject of his film all this while. “Ella vishaya helidre cinema nodo maja yelli? The audience will not feel special when they watch this kannada film,” he reasons. But the Real Star promises that Super will have all the elements of a full-on entertainer — including love, revenge, mast dialogues and even foot-tapping music — like all his previous directorials. “Most of all, our film is based on comedy and sarcasm,” he reveals. The actor plans to hold the audio release of the film in the first week of November and release the film later that month.

Kannada Star UPENDRA renumeration is 7 crore for Super

The nameless film by the comeback director may cost producer Rockline Venkatesh more. For now though he’s already transferred the big bucks into Upendra’s account.

Upendra’s comeback as a kannada director, the film with just a hand symbol for the title, will have a grand mahurat in Bangalore’s tennis stadium on Thursday. The film produced by Rockline Venkatesh, his 25th, is claimed to have cost him Rs 25 lakh for the photo shoot alone. Truth is the bill amounted to only Rs 5 lakh. The film’s invitation carries on the exaggerated tone; printed like a newspaper, it says the film will do business of Rs 25 crore.

Upendra is leaving no stone unturned to create some hype with these things. In the midst of all these, the real facts about the film are hard to come by. Sources say that the initial estimated budget of the film is Rs 7 crore. The amount is already in Upendra’s account and most likely, he is making the film on a contract basis.

The pictures from the photo shoot of the film do not reveal much about the characters, except that it has been done lavishly. The maverick director-actor is said to be playing a scientist in the film.

Nayanthara's popularity knows no bounds. Now she has signed her first Kannada film, and last week she did a photo-shoot in Bangalore.

The untitled kannada film, which will start rolling from April, is a big budget extravaganza starring superstar Upendra. He will also direct the film.

Nayan, we are told, is thrilled because her role is meaty and she will be shooting for the film in London and Bangalore.

By signing this kannada film produced by Rockline Venkatesh, Nayan is all set to charm the Kannada audiences, too.

This kannada film has been long time coming and Upendra himself had announced his comeback as director more than a year ago. Things seem to have fallen into place for now. But knowing Upendra, this film is likely to hit theatres only by the end of the year. The shooting alone is scheduled to take place for 100 days.

Here are the pictures/photos/wallpapers of Nayanatara and Upendra fro the kannada filn Super (or just palm symbol!!)

Priyanka's come back in kannada movie Shrimati

AFTER a five-year break following her marriage to kannada superstar Upendra, H2O fame Priyanka is back to enjoying the buzz in Sandlewood. And she’s making a comeback in kannada movie Shrimati - a remake of hindi flm 'Aitraaz' starring akshay, priyanka and kareena - starring Uppi and her, which is currently under production.

“Although I’ve been in touch with acting doing Bengali films during my break, I was nervous when I reported for the shooting of Shrimati,” confesses Priyanka, whose last kannada film with Uppi was H20. Facing the arclights with Uppi felt a little strange, she adds. “Earlier, it was different — he was my co-star. But now, I see him at home and back again on the sets! So, it feels a little different to approach each other professionally,” smiles the Bong beauty. But being a real-life couple has its advantages, she adds. “There’s a scene in which we’re lying on the bed and talking — it came naturally to us. We do it all the time at home after the kids have gone to sleep,” she says. But Priyanka’s hopes of spending quality time with hubby on the sets were quashed on day one of shooting. “Uppi’s never around me, and is always rehearsing his dialogues or writing something. He gives his shot and goes away; most people won’t even have a clue that we’re married!” she laughs.

Most real-life couples create a lot of interest when they team up on-screen. Will Uppi and her pairing up stoke the audience’s curiosity? “I’m sure our chemistry will fetch a good opening. So many fans have been asking us to do a film together for years. My cook, who didn’t get to see our wedding, says he’s eager to watch our maduve scene in the film!” she says.

But she’s having a great time essaying Uppi’s reel-life hendthi, played by Kareena Kapoor in the original. “Earlier, I didn’t understand any Kannada. Now I’m comfortable with the language since I speak it at home. But there have been some funny moments when I had to mouth long dialogues like, ‘Vichaarane maadakke anumathi kodabeku,’ and I’d be exhausted at the end,” she laughs.

Bollywood siren Celina Jaitly is also in the film: she plays a scheming woman, played by Priyanka Chopra in Aitraaz. Was Priyanka insecure about her intimate scenes with Uppi? “I was a bit. I prefer not to be around when they’re shooting such sequences,” she admits.

Now that she’s back in the corridors of Sandalwood, would she like to continue acting? “Yes, because it has brought my confidence back. It’s not an easy job, considering I have two kids. But I’m happy being back where I belong, especially since it’s with Uppi,” she says.

Kannada Movie Review: Dubai Babu: Torture Babu

For all the hype about Kannada actor Upendra’s 17 different getups and the fact it’s a remake of a successful film, Dubai Babu, is nothing more than a fancy dress parade by the lead actor and a torture to be borne by the audience. Upendra is loud, the alleged comedy boring and the film a colourful waste.

The kannada film is about Babu, a youth who is cheated of his money on the promise of being sent to Dubai for a job. He ends up in Mumbai along with five others fellow cheated souls running a roadside eatery. He falls in love with a girl and follows her back to Bangalore. But it is not just the girl he is after but also a gangster to exhaust his vengeance upon.

For a film with such a flimsy storyline it is necessary that every aspect is in perfect harmony. But sadly it does not. From the word go, Upendra goes into audio overdrive and drowns whatever he mouths with the noise. Veteran comedians Dwarakish, Tennis Krishna and Sadhu Kokila fail to evoke laughter. With the basic element of comedy falling flat there is nothing else others can do to salvage the film. Aryan Vaid is good except you do not understand the Kannada he speaks. From being unbelievable at first, the film turns out to be a farce by the end. There are a couple of good songs. Free download kannada film songs here. But these alone are not reason enough to visit a cinema hall. And be warned not to venture into Kapali cinema hall, the ‘main theatre’ for this film. The roof leaks.

The kannada Superstar will enthrall fans again with his unique looks in the upcoming Dubai Babu

NAMMA Buddhivanta kannada actor Upendra is back. This time in Shailendra Babu’s Dubai Babu. A remake of the Telugu hit Dubai Seenu, the film will once again see Uppi dada sporting different looks. The actor, who’s constantly been experimenting with his looks since Aishwarya, will be seen in 17 different get-ups in the song tracks of the flick.

“Since I had already shaved off my moustache and cut my hair short for Shreemati, I decided to do something special with the same look for Dubai Babu,” says Upendra. So, the actor and the Dubai Babu team tried out various styles with wigs and other interesting costumes. “And we took nearly a month to finalise all the looks,” he adds. Upendra plays a sheikh, a Sikh, and an

African-American, among others, in the songs.

While the actor says that it was team effort, kannada producer Shailendra Babu credits Uppi as the brain behind the concept. “It was entirely his idea and he took a keen interest in doing something unique for our film. Uppi bought the wigs in the US and they have added that extra zing to the song sequences,” adds Babu.

Dubai Babu features five kannada song tracks, which include Pe Pe Pa Dum Dum, Abdulla, Benda Kaloora Gowdru, Baachiko and Once Upon a Time. “The lyrics for Pe Pe Pa Dum Dum and Benda Kallora Gowdru were penned by Uppi and Sridhar. Uppi has even sung for Benda Kaloora Gowdru. He was fabulous,” Babu tells us. The songs have been shot in various locations like Mysore, Bangalore, Halebid and Dubai, where they hired an entire mall for three days.

Director Naganna says all the get-ups go with the storyline and, “aren’t out of the context, like in most films. Since Uppi always comes up with the unexpected, his fans can look forward to something exciting in Dubai Babu too. They’d have never seen him like this before,” sums up Naganna.

The kannada song Baachiko was earlier titled Devathe. “But Uppi felt Devathe was too ‘refined’ for him and promptly changed it to Baachiko!” says Shailendra Babu.

Kannada actor Uppi - Nagganna jodi back

The Kannada trio (Shailendra Singh, Uppi and Naganna) that gave successful kannada films Kutumba and Gowramma is back with Dubai Babu. It is a coincidence that all the three are Remakes from other languages.

Producer Shailendra Babu's earlier films Ganda Hendathi and Boy friend were also remakes. After the losses he incurred in Ganda Hendathi, he was looking for a pucca commercial subject and thus he decided to remake the super hit Telugu film Dubai Seenu into Kanada.

He is with Naganna and Upendra once again with beautiful Nikitha and Saloni playing heroines. Kannada veteran comedy actor Dwarakish is playing what Brahmanandam had done in Telugu. Kumar Govind the forgotten hero and producer is playing friend to kanada actor director Upendra.

Anil Jhaveri from Mumbai is the cameraman. With all this, 'Dubai Babu' has completed 70 percent of shooting in Mysore, Mumbai and Bangalore.

Two hits bring cheer to the industry

After a few months of pathetic performance of films at the Kannada box-office, two films Budhivantha starring Upendra and Vamshi starring Puneeth Rajakumar has brought smiles to the trade.

Upendra's Budhivantha in three weeks has given Rs.5 crores net share for the producers Mohan and SV Rajendra Singh Babu and the gross collection in the three weeks is Rs.7.5 crores.
After Raktha Kanneeru an Upendra film is seeing upward trend in the collection only now. In some of the Telugu belt areas like Kolar, Chintamani, Chickballapur, Budhivantha has made record collection and beaten the earlier reports.

The punchlines of Upendra, taming of five heroines, and the cinematography has been lapped up by the audience. The family audience and repeated audience are increasing says producer Mohan.

Puneeth Rajakumar's 'Vamshi' that had very average reviews has recorded massive collection. The major force Puneeth Rajakumar and actress Lakshmi plus director Prakash's charisma is adding up to the collection.

In two weeks Chakreshwari Combines has got back the investment and the film is a hit. The action image of Puneeth Rajakumar has been fully utilized by the director Prakash who gave 'Milana' earlier.

Uppi in a special kannada song appearance

Kannada actor Upendra is dancing with ten heroines for a song number in 'Masth Maja Madi'.
This is for the first time that he is appearing in item song that will be shot in a lavish scale by producer Soundarya Jagadish.

There are five heroes in 'Masth Maja Madi' – Sudeep, Vijaya Raghavendra, Diganth, Komalkumar and Nagkiran with one heroine Jennifer Kotwal.

The cost of this song is estimated at Rs.50 lakhs. The fund raising for this song shot on Upendra 10 heroines will be donated to orphan house says Soundarya Jagadish.
